English Translation
Then, seeing Rama standing exhausted and anxious in the battle, with Ravana before him ready to fight, and with the gods assembled to witness the conflict — the divine sage Agastya approached Rama and said:
'O Rama, O mighty-armed one, hear this eternal secret by which, dear child, you will conquer all enemies in battle.'
'This Aditya Hridayam (Heart of the Sun) is holy, destroyer of all enemies, ever-victorious. Chant it daily — it is inexhaustible, supremely auspicious.'
'It is the most auspicious of all that is auspicious, destroyer of all sins, pacifier of anxiety and grief, the supreme promoter of long life.'
'Worship Vivasvat (the Sun), who is radiant with rays, who rises in the sky, saluted by gods and asuras — the illuminator, the lord of the worlds.'
'He contains within him all the gods; he is luminous, nourisher of the rays. He protects all the worlds, gods and demons alike, with his rays.'
'He is Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Skanda, Prajapati, Mahendra, Kubera, Kala (Time), Yama, Soma (Moon) and Varuna (Lord of Waters).'
'He is the Pitaras, Vasus, Sadhyas, Ashvins, Maruts, Manu, Vayu, Fire, Prajapati, Prana, the maker of seasons, the illuminator.'
'He is Aditya, Savita, Surya, Khaga, Pusha, Gabhastiman, Suvarṇasadriśa (golden-hued), Bhanu, Hiranyareta (golden-seeded), Divakara.'
'He is Haridashva (whose horses are green), Sahasrarchi (thousand-rayed), Saptasapti (seven-horsed), Marichiman (radiant), Timironmathana (darkness destroyer), Shambhu, Tvashtra, Martanda, Ansuman.'
'Whoever glorifies him in calamities, hardships, forests and fears — O Raghava, that person is never overwhelmed.'
'Worship this Lord of gods, Lord of the universe, with one-pointed mind. Having chanted this three times, you will be victorious in battle.'
'O mighty-armed one, at this very moment you will slay Ravana.' Having said this, Agastya departed as he had come.
