The temple is famous for its completely unique architectural style, unlike any other temple in Bengal. It is a highly revered site for Tantric worshippers. The inner layout follows human anatomy as described in Tantric texts (the six chakras).
Mythology
The temple was built by Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy Mahasay, an ardent practitioner of Tantra. It is believed the Goddess appeared in his dream and gave him the exact architectural plan for the temple.
