किरितेश्वरी मंदिर, मुर्शिदाबाद
Approximate timings for this small Shakti Peeth. Verify locally. Some accounts note that the temple priest's presence may determine opening hours.
Kiriteswari is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas where Sati's crown (kirita) — her sacred divine diadem or headdress — is believed to have fallen on the banks of the Bhagirathi river in Murshidabad. The goddess is called Kiriteswari — "she who wears the crown" or "the goddess of the crown" — reflecting the kingly/queenly dignity of the divine feminine. The presiding Bhairava is Vibhishan. Like the nearby Sugandha peeth, Kiriteswari lies along the Bhagirathi in Murshidabad, making this district particularly sacred in the Bengal Shakti Peeth tradition.
