Mayapur is the spiritual headquarters of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness). It is the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, considered an incarnation of Lord Krishna. The campus is a massive international spiritual city drawing devotees from all over the world.
Mythology
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared here in 1486 AD to inaugurate the Sankirtana movement (congregational chanting of the holy names of God). The exact birthplace is located nearby at the Yogapith temple.
