सूर्य मंदिर, मोढेरा
Built in 1026-27 CE during the reign of Bhima I of the Chaulukya (Solanki) dynasty, it is one of the very few temples dedicated to the Sun God in India. Though no active worship occurs, it remains highly revered for its architectural and historical significance.
Mythology
According to the Skanda Purana and Brahma Purana, the area surrounding Modhera was known as Dharmaranya. It is believed that Lord Rama performed a yagna here to cleanse the sin of killing a Brahmin (Ravana).
