Palitana is the most sacred pilgrimage center for Svetambara Jains. It is the world's only mountain that has more than 900 temples. Every devout Jain aspires to climb to the top of the mountain at least once in their lifetime to achieve nirvana.
Mythology
It is believed that the first Jain Tirthankara, Rishabhanatha (Adinath), visited this hill, making it immensely sacred. Countless Jain monks and ascetics have attained liberation (Moksha) on this holy mountain.
