It is the most important site for the Valmiki community and Hindus at large, believed to be the ashram of the great sage Maharishi Valmiki who authored the epic Ramayana.
Mythology
According to the Ramayana, when Lord Rama banished Goddess Sita from Ayodhya, she took shelter in the ashram of Sage Valmiki here. This is the exact place where Sita gave birth to Luv and Kush. They grew up here, caught the Ashwamedha horse, and fought Lord Rama's army.
