रुक्मिणी देवी मंदिर
A pilgrimage to Dwarka is considered incomplete without a visit to the Rukmini Devi Temple. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna's chief queen, Goddess Rukmini (an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi).
Mythology
Legend states that Sage Durvasa was invited by Krishna and Rukmini for dinner. He agreed on the condition that they pull his chariot. While pulling, Rukmini became thirsty. Krishna struck the earth, bringing forth the Ganges for her to drink. Angered that Rukmini drank water without asking him first, Durvasa cursed her to live separately from her husband. This is why her temple is situated 2 km away from the main Dwarkadhish Temple.
