वडक्कुन्नाथन मंदिर
It is the first among the 108 Shiva temples in ancient Kerala, established by Lord Parashurama. The temple is the classic example of Kerala's architectural style and is situated on an elevated hillock right in the center of Thrissur city (Thekkinkadu Maidan).
Mythology
Parashurama, an avatar of Vishnu, reclaimed the land of Kerala from the sea and requested Lord Shiva to manifest there. Shiva sent his mount Nandi to select a spot, and the temple was built around the Swayambhu (self-manifested) linga.
